Giving Under Divine Purpose

My Mission:

Helping Christian Giving align with the purposes and principles God reveals in the Holy Scripture.

My Observation:

God has always been interested in more than the material substance of our offertory gifts. His primary focus is relational, but often our focus is not. When our focus differs from His, we may unintentionally impede God's intended impact or (like the priest Eli and his sons) pervert the process altogether.

1 Samuel 2:29 (Message) So why do you now treat as mere loot these very sacrificial offerings that I commanded for my worship?

My Vision:`

Christians drawing nearer to God, each other, and those in need through our giving.

My Offering:

This website invites you to explore divine purposes and plans God has for our giving and to discover the profound ways He uses our giving to draw us nearer. Through examination of God's Word, I pray that we see more clearly and then respond to what God is doing. I say "we" because I am on this journey also. Seeing and doing are two separate steps.

I offer tools to aid our exploration: thought-provoking essays & videos, a devotional and a comprehensive (downloadable) Bible Study. The collective distinctives of these resources are:

  • The emphasis is relational rather than financial

  • The lens is one of discipleship

  • The breadth of scriptural references shared

  • Life experiences are used to illuminate scriptural principles in ways to which readers can relate

  • The continuity between Old & New Testaments principles is highlighted

  • The message is relevant for Teachers, Pastors, Small Groups and Individuals.

I am using the phrase _dare to become the leaven of change

Matt. 13:33 (NIV)

He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough."

Yeast is leaven, it makes dough rise

Leaven: a pervasive influence that modifies or transforms something

About

In the late 1990's, I served in my local church as a Deacon, Budget Chairperson and teacher. During that time, I was also asked to make the offertory appeal during our Sunday morning worship services. Through the combination of those roles, I was exposed to both questions and misunderstandings many Christians have regarding our giving. My preparation for the offertory appeal repeatedly revealed relevant biblical principles that seemed to speak to those questions and concerns. I sensed that those insights were not intended for my local church alone. So, I began to share. Those messages were received in 52 US states and territories and 85 countries on 6 continents. Since that time, through my personal Bible study, God has continued to allow me to see things I hadn't seen before. I feel led to engage in a new season of sharing what He allows me to see.
